Personal Development

Personal Development

As a part of your child’s educational experience at Field Lane, we aim to promote personal wellbeing through a comprehensive programme of Personal Development Education that gives children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.

The Department for Education  made changes to relationships and sex education following nationwide consultation which came into effect from September 2020 and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements. The statutory guidance can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education

The Relationships Education, RSE, and Health Education (England) Regulations 2019 have made Relationships Education compulsory in all primary schools. Sex education is not compulsory in primary schools. At Field Lane, we do not teach Sex Education.

Our curriculum, which has My Happy Mind at its core, covers everything that primary schools should teach about relationships and health, including puberty. It focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing, safeguarding and healthy relationships.

Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up will give children and young people the information, skills and positive values to have safe, fulfilling relationships and help them take responsibility for their own well-being.

Our Relationships Education Policy is reviewed annually with our governors so that we can be sure our provision is appropriate for our pupils based on their:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and disabilities

Teachers  plan lessons so that children with SEN and/or disabilities can study every subject, wherever possible, and ensure that there are no barriers to every child achieving.

Teachers use inclusive high quality teaching to meet the needs of all children through an adapted curriculum

Teachers also take account of the needs of children whose first language is not English.

Further information can be found in our statement of equality information and objectives, and in our SEN policy and information report.
